My son was born after a difficult delivery and little did I know he was born with sickle cell disease. I knew I had the trait but believed his father was sickle free based on what I was told. A routine checkup at age 2 alerted the doctor , since his eyes were yellow. Tests confirmed he had sickle cell disease. he was almost 3 when he was first hospitalized with pneumonia. Six months later he was back in with Acute chest syndrome. He was hospitalized once again with an infection from food poisoning at school. At the hospital he developed pneumonia again. This time the doctor prescribed Hydroxyurea as part of his treatment. He was hospitalized one more time with pneumonia, this time one of his lungs collapsed.
As his primary caregiver i began to search for a way to make sure he remained healthy. I came across T. J. Brown's page on Face book and began to incorporate juicing in his diet. I have been giving him beet juice cocktails made by juicing beets, carrots and whatever fruits are in season as well as a little ginger. Since he has been on his juice regiment he has remained stable and has not been hospitalized for a little over a year. When ever he starts coming down with a cold my first line of defense is a juice cocktail. He has had few school days lost due to illness and is thriving.
