Maryam's Advice for parents; "They have to read about vegan nutrition and make a choice now if they love their kids!"
Meet Lola and Gabriela- fun, friendly, independent, and bubbly three year old twin sisters. Lola has sickle cell disease and Gabriela has the sickle cell trait. Their mother, Maryam contacted us regarding getting her children's school to support the health and well-being of her kids by focusing on proper nutrition and providing better food choices, and making sure they are eating to benefit their health. As we all know most schools carry unhealthy food options for kids.
Anything including but not limited to sodas, GMO fruits and processed junk foods were choices she did not want her children exposed to. I explained to her that we agreed with her and would start by meeting with her family and gifting them a health foods basket. Then we could have the kids bring their own food to school for the time-being, while we figured out how to contact the school board and get the school to follow doctor's orders and the mother's wishes.
Parents Herminio and Maryam, were happy to sit and share their experiences with sickle cell. Maryam explained that she first knew that sickle cell existed when she was ten years old because she had a cousin with it. At eighteen she found some literature on sickle cell and also books about nutrition would would later prove to be useful. The kids were born in Puerto Rico. They moved here in April of this year. They explained that in Puerto Rico, Lola was somewhat forced to take monthly transfusions and also got sick very frequently. They decided to move because they figured America would have more resources for the kids.
Maryam was aware that she carried the trait but was unaware that the father Hermino did too. Before birth she was told by doctors that there was a big chance that one of them would be born with sickle cell. Doctors proceeded to inform her she should look into the option of abortion. Much like my mother, Maryam did not agree and went through with the birth of her two beautiful daughters. Before her babies were born, she did a lot of reading on newborn care and nutrition.
Maryam made a wise and conscious discussion to feed her kids fully plant-based food when she was pregnant. Some call it a plant based diet, otherwise known as being vegan or veganism. This means they do not eat meat, dairy, eggs, and other processed foods linked to animal ingredients. Food such as these are linked to animal cruelty and the rise in disease and illness in humans. Lola and Gabriela have been enjoying their vegan eats for over 3 years now since birth, and their parents make the extra effort to provide the best food choices for the kids.
While we were there interacting with the parents and two sisters, they were ecstatic about the food we brought them. They instantly started to eat the organic apples and celery! Our foundation plans on revisiting the family as much as possible donating food and providing health and wellness information. To help us provide these important resources to the well-being of families and people that desperately need it.

"Ceaser in one of our biggest inspirations, despite dealing with the struggles of Sickle Cell and surviving strokes he is still able to be a gifted child prodigy"
Sign the petition here! https://www.change.org/p/ellen-degeneres-show-guest-caesar-sant-on-the-ellen-show
Caesar is a 6 year old violin prodigy born with Sickle Cell Anemia. He had 3 strokes in a span of 2 years. The last one (2014) literally almost kill him. However, his 7 month old sister (Helen) is a match to him. Her umbilical cord cells were saved and storage for the transplant, which could cost even 1/2 of a million dollars, but has ~95% of chance to cure his anemia. We do do not have this money.
We request Ellen DeGeneres to invite Caesar to her show so that this prodigy and medical condition could come to the attention of the wider public. This is vital in order to make an effective appeal for raising funds to treat the painful medical condition Caesar was born with.
While we are proud parents to this delightful child, we believe that as a prodigy, Caesar belongs to the entire world. By signing this petition you would join us in requesting Ellen to invite Caesar on her show.
